OMG I colored for a whole day O_o
Second entry for :iconmadhatterkyoko:'s oc contest, I find this couple awesome so I must drew them *-* here are Sayuri and Derick, their is an impossible love so I pictured them fighting under a moonlight, when Derick tries to break off the fight. This time I used a more anime-like style, with cell shading and so on it's nice trying new things >w<

Hello, I found that I like doing my critiques in order of the star ratings.

So firstly vision, I think that whilst the base is clear (its a woman and a man, in love), the theme/point of view of impossible love is not so much. I'm not saying that it always has to be extreme poses that have moment and body language to show messages but more often than not it's important and it greatly effects impact.

I'm sure you are aware that this style is rather common and whilst I don't have anything against not having a style (I don't have one either) it does naturally lower this mark. The facial expressions and clothing are rather common to this genera as well. Even the pose is simple. This is in my opinion really the weaker part of drawing. The background is nice though.

Technique is the best part of this piece, and I'm sure you know that. Which means that you can focus on more complicated poses or expression because you've really got the rest down. The shading, the anatomy, the folds in the clothing. The only thing is the light source, if this is night and the moon is behind them why are they lit like that?

Now this is bit is slightly more based on opinion but you should think about it; this piece vs Sezou at Matsuri. If you put them of two tabs and look at the difference, I personally prefer the hair in this one it looks less like hair plastic. But that fine detail shading on the hands makes the piece much strong than this one. It look like it has more detail and time put into it. This may not be what you want or are going for but it is worthy of some thought for your next piece.

Now the impact is good because the concept is simple and common but I fear that might not be the cause in all your pieces as they lack concept and have simple composition. However for this piece the idea of lovers in some kind of heartbreaking love (I thought she was crying of happiness when I first saw it though) is relevantly clear. And I got that, even when it was just a thumbnail I was looking at.

This was a bit of a harsh critique but please understand that I don't say this with hate or flames but to help you improve and really push yourself as an artist to become grander and greater. (Also sorry if my english blows)
